Day 6: Evening

Nothing much new to report. The evening shift was going to give Dad some morphine as he was somewhat restless. He's scheduled for a battery of tests tomorrow, which should give us an indication of our progress toward coming off the respirator. If his test results are good, they will start to get more aggressive toward getting him off the "tube." Mom said that Dad had been shaved and that the respiratory therapist had come in and retaped the respirator tube, so he looked real good with plenty of color in his face, etc.

Mom also said that the first responder from last Friday stopped by to check in on Dad ... we have been so very impressed with everyone we have been in contact with and are very fortunate to have Dad in St. Mary's for treatment. Doctors, ICU and NCCU staff, ER folks ... they have all been just top notch.

And thanks to everyone for their comments and words of encouragement on the blog and via other communication methods ... they mean a lot to us!

We learned of your dad's accident through a friend in Cordele, Cecil Sanders. My dad used to work for Harris and my daughter was a dental hygienist for Dr. Bobby Hurt. She remembers your dad as one of her patients.

Please know that we are praying for your dad's full recovery and for our Savior's comforting strength for your family.

We live in Bogart. If we can help in any way, please let us know.

Chip, Skeeter, and Mrs. Helen,
I have just finished reading your blog updates and I am so sorry to learn what has happened to Mr. George, although glad to hear he seems to be improving. This really is such a small world we live in. First let me introduce myself. My name is Jenifer Germer. I live in Atlanta, but used to live in Cordele. I was a dental hygienist for Dr. Hurt for 14 years. This morning my Mom who lives in Athens, called to tell me that my grandmother told her there was a man in the hospital in Athens she knew, that had a brain injury from a fall. She said he is in the hospital at St. Marys. My Mom was telling me about it, and she sent me the link by e-mail to this blog. I clicked the link and started reading, and I said wait a minute. I think I know him. I said I know George Bush from Cordele, but not Athens. I said the one I know worked at Harris Press where my grandfather worked. Well, low and behold....one and the same. I read where someone from Harris had commented on the blog. Apparently, your Dad goes to my brother's fiance's church (Prince Avenue) in Athens too. I knew your Dad from cleaning his teeth at Dr. Hurts. I was shocked to find out that the man they were speaking of in Athens was someone I knew from back in Cordele. I left there in 1999 to move to ATL. Chip and Skeeter, I read that your Dad is a huge DAWG fan as is my entire family. I am getting ready now to go to Athens for the game. I will make sure I yell GO DAWGS especially loud a few times for Mr. George. I will continue to check this blog and hope that I see remarkable improvement in the very near future. I hope the tests show he can start coming off the ventilator. My Dad was on one in 1998 for a month so I know what you are dealing with wwhen he doesn't want it hooked to him. Daddy would wake up enough to try and snatch it all off/out and succeeded a few times. He had to be restained with velcro straps to the bed and sedated. It is so hard to see a loved one go through something like this, but remember God is still in the healing and miracle working business!! He is in control!
My e-mail is pauljengermer@comcast.net if there is anything at all I can do.
Until next time,
Jenifer Musselwhite-Germer (Atlanta)
